Why We Walk-n-Talk
One conversation can save eight lives.
The Walk-n-Talk is more than a 5 km walk. It is a national movement that honours organ donors, celebrates life after transplant, and starts the conversations that shorten Canada’s transplant waitlist.
Why we talk
Canada’s organ shortage is not a shortage of generosity — it is a shortage of conversations. Most Canadians support organ donation, yet far fewer have registered their decision or told their families. In the hardest moment, families who never heard their loved one’s wishes often say no.
Every walk sparks the #TalkToYourFamily conversation: register your donor decision, and say it out loud at home. These conversations save lives.
Why we walk
A transplant is lifelong — so are the costs and challenges. Every kilometre we walk, funds the programs that carry transplant patients and their families through. From medical innovation, grants to support costs, and celebrating an active life after transplant, we cover the full journey.
Walking together is our advocacy in motion — recipients, donor families, and whole communities moving hope into action.
One decision. A ripple effect.
Andrew Puetz was 22 — quick-witted, loyal, larger than life — when his family lost him in an accident. Because Andrew had registered as an organ and tissue donor, his family was never left guessing. Andrew's gifts saved multiple lives. Years later, when his baby cousin Emma needed a liver transplant, his extended family gave again — this time as a living liver donor. Emma is now 3, full of laughter and possibility.
One registration. One conversation. One family that gave twice — once in grief, once in love. That’s why we Walk-n-Talk.

a-NRP ProgramMore organs, transplanted safely
A first-in-Canada medical innovation at the birthplace of liver transplantation in Canada. The a-NRP technique restores blood flow to organs after circulatory death — turning organs once considered unusable into second chances.
- 14+ lives saved since 2022
- Potential to unlock 115–140 additional transplantable livers every year
- $250,000 invested to purchase Canada’s first a-NRP perfusion machine
Andrew Puetz Family GrantNo family left to carry it alone
Created in memory of a young man who registered his donor decision and shared it with his family, this grant removes financial barriers for transplant families — travel, medications, physiotherapy, medical devices, and recovery costs at every stage of the journey.
- No income cutoffs, no expiry date — because a transplant is lifelong
- 21 recipients and families supported to date
- The grant grew by more than 400% in its second year

Why Walk-n-Talk?
The Walk-n-Talk event is both active and educational. As we walk together, we will discuss the crucial topic of organ donation and the importance of communicating your wishes with your loved ones. By doing so, we can ensure that more lives are saved through organ transplants.
This year, we are focusing our fundraising efforts in two critical areas:
In London, Ontario: Funds raised will go towards further support of the ARP program at London Health Sciences Centre. Move For Life Foundation purchased the equipment to help in this transformative procedure that will allow more organs be viable for organ transplant. This procedure has been used for 14 organ transplants in 2024/2025. Further support will assist the programming with training, resources, and materials.
In Saskatoon and Humboldt, Saskatchewan: The funds raised go directly to The Andrew Puetz Family Grant, which assists Saskatchewan families facing the financial strain of relocating to Edmonton, Alberta, for their child’s organ transplant and care. Your support will cover essential costs such as transportation, accommodation, and daily living expenses, easing their burden during a challenging time.
